Trauma Teddies - 03/23/2018
news image

What A wonderful event.  The Lombardian even highlighted it.  Here is the story that appeared on March 22nd:

Imagine as a small child, ill or injured, being whisked off in an ambulance, surrounded by tubes and other scary equipment, while grown-ups in dark clothing are poking and prodding.
That's enough to cause trauma in just about anyone, let alone a child, so the Lombard Fire Department has come up with a way to help ease children's fears and give them something else to think about.
That's where the Trauma Teddy program kicks in; teddy bears handed out that help soothe and distract children while they are being treated in an ambulance and/or being taken to a hospital.

Great Presentation on CASA - 03/17/2018
news image

This week we heard about CASA.  Did you know that nearly 700,000 children experience abuse or neglect each year. Instead of playing with neighbors and making happy family memories, they’re attending court hearings, adjusting to new foster homes and transitioning to new schools. That’s a heavy burden for a child to carry. With a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) or guardian ad litem (GAL) volunteer dedicated to their case, America’s most vulnerable children will have someone speaking up for their best interests. With your support, more children will have the opportunity to thrive in a safe and loving home.

We were fortunate to have two Guest Speakers today.

The first was Beth Rakowski who represented Carenet. This ministry was started by pastors providing help to those with unplanned pregnancies.  Currently they serve 1000 women in DuPage county.  Clients find them by word of mouth, the internet and through local churches.  A new office will be opening in West Chicago.  This organization is 100% funded through donations so our filling those baby bottles that Barb has go a long way to helping out!

Our second Guest Speaker was Cyndy Velasquez who talked about the Police Torch Run and how Lombard Police support the Special Olympics.  The Torch Run raises funds for...
